Thread: Avatar for Oscar?

The Oscars are supposed to reflect quality films, not necessarily feel-good crowd pleasers. If you want that, watch the People's Choice Awards.

I think if they really meant to find depth, originality, and 'quality' they would allow movies in other languages to be considered for more than best foreign language film.

I liked the movie avatar but i don't think it is so good to get the oscar and what will oscar be given for?

I believe if that movie wins best picture, it is not only going to be a slap in the face to any action movie previously, but a slap in the face to anyone who believes the Oscars should honestly be given out to the better picture. I'm not going to say Avatar was crap, but honestly the plot was sappy, cheesy, cliched in every way possible and entirely secondary to the special effects, and special effects should not be what decides a best motion picture award. I am all in favor of it winning best art direction, best visual effects, sound editing and sound mixing, maybe even original score or even best directing (I think that one is a stretch though, given the CGI I personally would go to Lee Daniels for Precious). But definitely not best picture.
